Sunday.
Something that I have been thinking about lately is time.
Actually, we think about time all the time. I’ve been reading this book for
classes, called One Church, Many Tribes. And the majority of this book has nothing
to do with what I’m talking about. But one part of the book is talking about
time as either qualitative or quantitative. The book said that Americans see
time as quantitative. That is just the cultural norm, and I could not agree
more. Ever since I got to
Australia, life has been all about time. How much time I’ve been here, how much
time I have left.
Now that we’re about
halfway through the semester, the idea that time is fleeting is more prominent
than ever. Time is like ice cream. You have it, and you can enjoy it,
you can revel in it even, but it’s still melting away. And it doesn’t matter
what you do. It’s going to melt. So you have to enjoy it while it’s in front of
you. Because it can’t last forever. All things must come to an end. And because I don’t have all that long
to be here, I think I need to challenge myself to view time as qualitative,
rather than quantitative.
