Friday.
Today we had Aboriginal class. This was the longest class of
my life… We had these two women come in and speak to us. They were super nice
and sweet, but it was just not feeling it. It really is a cultural thing.
Aboriginal people love to tell stories and take their time getting to the
point. As an American I am all about the most efficient way to get from point A
to point B. So I really struggled to listen while they took a detour through
the rest of the alphabet just to get to B…
After class I posted a million blogs because I was really
far behind. After that I went home, and ate some left over burritos. Braedon
was having some friends over and they were all congregating in the living room.
I felt awkward about it because I had to grab a movie out of the shelf. So like
any normal person on the 21st century, I texted Braedon and asked
him to grab ‘The Help’ for me. And like a good little broski, he did.
I then took the movie and went to the Flo Harris house. I
don’t know if I’ve ever talked about it, but Flo Harris is some student housing
that is off of the Lewisham train station. There are 5 ASCers who live there and had invited people
over to watch a movie. The movie that I was providing.
I had never been there before and was worried that I would
get lost, but when I got off at Lewisham I was met by Ronnie (an ASCer who
lives at Flo) as well as a few other ASCers, so we all walked to Flo together.
When we got there we were still waiting on some others to
show up, so to kill time, we did some card tricks. And then that evolved into
the pyramid game (with scatagory cards), and that evolved into movie charades.
Once more people showed up, we watched ‘The Help’. I had
never seen it, and I really liked it.
We ate lots of Tim Tams and popcorn.
After the movie it was kind of late and I had service the next morning. So I
left with Becky and Mackenzie and we started walking to the train station. As
we were walking, we were just walking and chatting, and then we heard this
noise. It sounded like feet slapping on pavement. We turned around and saw
Ronnie, running after us, holding the movie. I had totally forgot to grab it
and he had taken it upon himself to run after me with it. What a guy! He could
have just called me and told me to come back and get it, but he chose to run after
me with it!
We got the the train station and missed our train by about
15 seconds. Lewisham is a really small train station, it doesn’t even have a
place for you to scan your ticket. So trains don’t stop there very often. … So
we had to wait another 26 minutes for a train to come. While we were waiting,
another huge group who had been at Flo came and joined us at the train station.
So we got to be a loud bunch of Americans when we got on the train. My
favorite!
